How can I tell if my door is needing to be replaced?
Look for soft areas around the bottom of the door , using a hard pointed edge of a knife or pick. Also check the Door frame bottom as well. Paint will hide rot damage too. [Back to the top]

How often do I need to clean my door?
Look at the raised mouldings on the outside of the door, those are places that collect the dust, dirt, and pollens first. When these collect , and sit through the heat and humidity, they start attacking the finish and work under the edges , which starts the process of deterioration, and breakdown.

What should I use to clean my door?
After a re-finish ,or new finish, I recommend using a soft cloth with rubbing alcohol to remove fingerprints, dirt, dust, oils. It will dry quickly and not leave a residue. The using another soft cloth, wipe the door again with Mineral Spirits. This will put a small amount of petroleum back on the finish to keep it from drying out so quickly. Then using a clean soft cloth, wipe down the door again to remove any excess Mineral Spirits..

How often should I re-finish my door?
That will depend on the extent of exposure that your door gets. Things like rain, sprinklers, direct sun light, all these will have an effect on the finish to different degrees. When you can see a noticeable change in color from top to bottom, or it is starting to get flakey or rough feeling, it may be time to start thinking about getting it re-finished.

Do you do re-finishing on site?
NO. There are alot of steps to complete to insure a good finish. Proper drying time between staining, finish coats. Trying to rush this procedure,(i.e.), doing this all in one day, will not give the products sufficient time to dry and cure properly, which will shorten the life of the finish, and may cause early finish failure.

How long does it take to re-finish my door?
Normally I spend 3-5 days with your door. This allows me enough time to do a thorough job prepping it for re-staining, sanding between coats of finish, and drying time.

What’s the process for doing the job?
I will bring a temporary door, and switch them out. Your door will come back to the shop for stripping and stain, and getting the finish sprayed on. All finishes are sprayed, with the door flat to ensure a smooth , even finish. When it is complete, I will contact you for a time to return your door and re-install and adjust if needed.
